• Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech make mRNA COVID-19 vaccines. Choosing an option starts with your age, vaccination history, health risks and the products currently available. Our pharmacist can help you review the current recommendations before you book.

    How mRNA Vaccines Work

The vaccine delivers temporary instructions that teach your immune system to recognize part of the virus. The body breaks down the mRNA after using those instructions. These vaccines contain no live coronavirus and cannot give you COVID-19.

    Which Products Are Available?

Moderna makes Spikevax and mNexspike. Pfizer-BioNTech makes Comirnaty. Age ranges, FDA indications and dose schedules vary by product and can change from season to season. The CDC does not prefer one COVID-19 vaccine when more than one recommended, age-appropriate option is available. Ask the pharmacist which current product is in stock and suitable for you.

What to Discuss With Your Pharmacist

    • Your age, vaccination record and timing of any recent COVID-19 infection.
    • Any immune condition, pregnancy, medication or other factor that could affect the decision.
    • Any severe allergic reaction to a previous dose or ingredient, or a history of myocarditis or pericarditis.
    • Expected effects, follow-up, and whether a dose is due based on current guidance.

    What to Expect After Vaccination

A sore arm, tiredness, headache or fever can occur. Ask what to watch for and when to seek care. Seek medical attention for chest pain, trouble breathing, a racing or pounding heartbeat, or signs of a severe allergic reaction after vaccination.
